The tendency of centrally placed points to seem static works to the picture’s advantage here as it shows two people waiting listening to commentary on the women’s road race at the 2012 Olympics at a point when – 3 days in – the weather was crap and Britain hadn’t won a single medal. What was happening mattered: Lizzie Armistead got silver and the next day the sun broke through. Nothing would ever be the same again…
